Interim Preceptor in Japanese, Japanese Language Program, Dept. of East Asian Languages and Civilizations
Wakana Maekawa, originally from Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture, is currently a drill instructor in Elementary Japanese (Japanese Ba and Bb) courses at Harvard. She joined the Japanese Language Program in 2012. Prior to coming to Harvard, she taught Japanese at Texas Tech University, Cornell University, International Christian University in Tokyo, Middlebury College and Hamilton College. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language from Aichi University of Education, and her master’s degree in Applied Linguistics and Second Language Studies at Texas Tech University. Her research interests focus on Japanese language pedagogy and second language acquisition.
