Toshiko Mori interviewed in The New York Times "The 25 Essential Gardens to See in Your Lifetime"

Toshiko Mori, Robert P. Hubbard Professor in the Practice of Architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD), was recently interviewed in a roundtable discussion by The New York Times for "The 25 Gardens You Must See." This article, which summarizes the top nominations of a panel of six horticultural experts, includes two selections from Japan, the gardens of Saihoji Kokedera Temple and Katsura Imperial Villa, both located in Kyoto.

As part of the GSD's Department of Architecture, Prof. Mori has led several groups of students on trips to Japan. In Spring 2024, she taught an advanced studio course on the philosophy and future of Mingei (Japanese folk art), including a travel component to the Hida Takayama region of Japan. Throughout the semester, the studio engaged in activities such as designing a contemporary Mingei museum in Takayama, Gifu, and visiting the pottery studio of Theaster Gates in Tokoname, Aichi.
