Provides support to Harvard doctoral candidates in the dissertation COMPLETION stage in any field of Japanese Studies in the humanities or social sciences. (The fellowship matches its stipend level to the GSAS standard annual stipend for dissertation completion fellowships.) Students must apply directly to GSAS for a GSAS Dissertation Completion Fellowship via the online application system CARAT. Students are required to meet all departmental requirements, submit an approved dissertation prospectus, and draft two dissertation chapters, or, for students in fields where the dissertation consists of three articles, produce one article in draft. The completion of the dissertation drafts must be confirmed by the dissertation advisor and a second advisor in a signed confirmation form. The Edwin O. Reischauer Institute of Japanese Studies designates a few Dissertation Completion awards in Japanese Studies in consultation with GSAS. Please see the GSAS Fellowships DCF Webpage for more details, instructions to apply and the deadline.
