Because of the mutual benefits for Japanese studies at Harvard and in the local research community, the Reischauer Institute of Japanese Studies offers informal Associate-in-Research status to scholars and experts in various fields and disciplines related to Japan. These scholars are based at universities and many other institutions, mainly in the Greater Boston area and the Northeast region. Associates in Research often engage in Japanese studies at Harvard by exchanging ideas, participating in activities, and attending events at RIJS and other Asia-related centers.
After submission of a written application and a curriculum vitae, these informal appointments may be approved by the Executive Director and must be renewed annually.
