The Edwin O. Reischauer Institute of Japanese Studies (RI) will provide small grants (up to $1000) for Harvard graduate students in any field of Japanese studies in the humanities or social sciences to help defray the cost of attending scholarly conferences where they present papers or serve as panel discussants. Dissertation Completion Fellowship (DCF) candidates are eligible to apply for more than one RIJS Conference Travel Grant.
For AY2026-27, RIJS will provide conference grant support for those who present a paper or serve as a panel discussant. For virtual attendance and participation, students may apply to have registration fees covered.
All support related to travel must comply with Harvard University guidelines and safety protocols. Please see the Harvard Global Support Services website for travel support. Please note for international conference travel, registration with Global Support is a requirement prior to the disbursement of funds.
