IKUE SHINGU
Preceptor in Japanese
Ikue Shingu received her B.S. in Microbiological Industry, Food Science, and Technology from Kyoto University and M.A. in Japanese Language and Pedagogy from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Her research interests include language variety in Japanese, communication strategies in Japanese, and development of online teaching materials. In addition, she is the Director of the "Kansai Dialect Self-Study Website for Japanese Language Learners."
Before coming to Harvard, she taught at North Carolina State University, MIT, University of Massachusetts at Amherst, SUNY Binghamton, Middlebury Summer School, and Camden Country High School in Georgia. She joined the Japanese Language Program at Harvard in 2012, and she currently teaches JAPAN 140ab “Advanced Modern Japanese” and JAPAN 150ab “Readings and Discussion in Japanese Social Sciences.” She has also previously taught JAPAN Bab “Elementary Japanese” and JAPAN 120ab “Intermediate Japanese I.”
