Asahi Shimbun features Ryo Morimoto, former RIJS Postdoctoral Fellow and JDA Project Manager

The Asahi Shimbun, one of the leading newspapers in Japan, has recently published an article about Ryo Morimoto, former RIJS Postdoctoral Fellow and Japan Digital Disasters Archive Project Manager.

A first-generation student and scholar from Japan, Dr. Morimoto earned his Ph.D. in Anthropology at Brandeis and joined the Princeton University faculty as Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Richard Stockton Bicentennial Preceptor. His research focuses on the anthropology and history of Japan, disaster and environment, science and technology, and digital humanities. In June 2023, he published his first monograph Nuclear Ghosts: Atomic Livelihoods in Fukushima’s Gray Zone (University of California Press), which tells the stories of residents who chose to remain in Minamisōma, Fukushima, following the 2011 nuclear disaster.
