In Memoriam: Thomas Rohlen (1940-2022)

With great sadness, the Reischauer Institute notes the passing of Thomas Rohlen earlier this spring. An internationally respected academic, anthropologist, educator, program builder, policy analyst, and consultant, Professor Rohlen’s interests included Japanese corporate organization, labor markets, banks, governments, and education. He spent two decades on the faculty of Stanford University, where he established the Asia Pacific Research Center at Stanford and the Stanford Center in Kyoto. He was the Edwin O. Reischauer Visiting Professor in Japanese Studies at Harvard from 1985 to 1986.
