Ryo Morimoto receives 11th Professor Josef Kreiner Hosei University Award for International Japanese Studies
On January 20, 2026, Ryo Morimoto, Assistant Professor in Anthropology, received the 11th Professor Josef Kreiner Hosei University Award for International Japanese Studies at an award ceremony hosted in Tokyo by the Hosei University Research Center for International Japanese Studies (HIJAS). Honored for his book Nuclear Ghost: Atomic Livelihoods in Fukushima’s Gray Zone (University of California Press, 2023), Prof. Morimoto delivered a commemorative lecture reflecting on Fukushima fifteen years after 3.11, drawing on long-term fieldwork in Minamisoma.
This semester, Prof. Morimoto is teaching two courses related to this research, both in the Department on Anthropology: Robots in Human Ecology: An Anthropology of Robotics (ANTHRO 1956) and Nuclear Things and Toxic Colonization (ANTHRO 1922).
