The Reischauer Institute congratulates Lauren Baehr ('23, History & Literature and East Asian Studies) on her recently published report on the response to COVID-19 in East Asia! As part of the RIJS Japan Summer Internship Program, Lauren worked as a research intern with the Asia Pacific Initiative (API), a Tokyo-based independent think tank and program brand of The International House of Japan (I-House).

Established by Kodansha Publishers in 1995 and named in honor of Edwin O. Reischauer, the Noma-Reischauer Prizes in Japanese Studies are given annually to the best essays on Japan-related topics written by a Harvard undergraduate and graduate student. The 2022 Noma-Reischauer Prizes will be presented on December 5, 2022 at the annual ceremony and reception held at 5 Bryant Street, the location for the Japanese language program.

Professor Kosuke Imai of the Department of Statistics and Government recently published an article on Nikkei Business about his recent Algorithm-Assisted Redistricting Methodology "ALARM" Project. Launched this past year, this research project to apply redistricting computational algorithms to Japan’s House of Representatives. With Reischauer Institute support, Prof. Imai was able to work with several Harvard undergraduates and a Keio University undergraduate.
